On behalf of the Board of Directors and Leadership Team, I am excited to announce our plans to merge with Langley Federal Credit Union. Merging with Langley will allow us to continue acting in the best interest of our members by providing more access, more value, and more rewards to members and the community.
This merger represents a partnership between two credit unions that share values, plus a real commitment to our members and the communities we serve. As the financial services landscape continues to evolve, merging with Langley allows us to immediately enhance what we can offer members. This includes access to more branch locations, more products and services at competitive rates, and enhanced technology offerings that will provide greater 24/7 convenience.
As the merger process continues, we will keep members informed of progress, including sharing important notices, dates, and events. Do Good is one of our community collaborative giveback programs. When members bring us more of their business, we seek opportunities to give back and Do Good in our local community.
It depends on the account type.
When our members close their loan(s) and/or open a new checking account/youth savings account, they are asked to select a local school, teacher or charity. At the end of the giveback period, we mail checks to the recipients.
Starting in September, we ask our members (who open new loans or checking accounts with us) the name of their favorite local school. In December we send a donation (funded by VBSFCU) to each school as selected by each member. If your school would like marketing materials to drive donations, please contact the marketing department.
Each spring, we raise money for three local school-based programs. We selected the Virginia Beach Education Foundation, VBSchools Beach Bag program and Operation Backpack* as the 2021 spring recipients. Checks/backpack donations are sent to the recipients in June.
*We also raise donations for Operation Backpack during our two shred events, held bi-annually. All donations of materials and cash are all given to the VBSchools Social Services dept for their August Jumpstart event. Learn More about Operation Backpack.
Each summer, we collect requests from local teachers who need help with classroom expenses. At the end of August, we tally how much money was donated to the Do Good Fund (based on the number of new loans/checking accounts), then give back to as many teachers as the fund will allow.
